INTRODUCTION

The cycling events at the Huntsman World Senior Games are divided up into four events which take place over four days, usually Tuesday through Friday. There are three categories of riders, Division I (US Cycling Federation and foreign licensed racers), Division II (public riders), and Division III (riders who have never raced before).

SNOW CANYON HILL CLIMB

The first event is the Snow Canyon Hill Climb in Snow Canyon. This event starts at the Sand Dunes and climbs up to the top, an elevation gain of approximately 800 feet in a distance of about 5 Km, with an average gradient of about 5%, with short stretches of 10-11%. Riders are started time trial fashion with the oldest riders first down through the youngest, at 30 second intervals. Typical participation is over 200 riders.

There will then be a break for the officials, then starting the oldest riders in this category down to youngest. All 60+ riders, all women 55+, and all Division III riders do the 20 Km. course. BLUFF PARK CRITERIUM

The third event is the Bluff Street Park Criterium. There are a total of 9 races containing various age and gender categories, starting at 9am and ending around 4pm. The races are based on time as opposed to distance, varying from 30 minutes to 45 minutes, and typically not timed in the same manner as a road race.

IVINS ROAD RACE

The fourth and last event is the Ivins Road Race. There are three different start points to accomodate the various ages and abilities, with a common finish in Ivins. The course goes from Ivins, out past Kayenta, up Gunlock Canyon and out to the main highway at Veyo, back to and down Snow Canyon (a very fast desent), and back to Ivins. The hills get progressively more challenging as you approach the climb out of the canyon, with a total elevation gain of approximately 2000' over the full 37 mile loop. See the chart below for the various distances for each Division. The 37 mile distance starts in Ivins, the 30 mile distance starts at the Gunlock turnoff (6 miles from Ivins), and the 20 mile distance starts in Gunlock (13 miles from Ivins).
